GM's BEV-N EV Platform to Debut in Chevy Equinox

- GM is building a new dedicated EV platform codenamed BEV-N, with the Chevy Equinox EV slated as the first vehicle on it in late 2028 or early 2029.
- The Chevy Blazer EV will follow the Equinox as the next model to adopt the BEV-N platform before expanding to additional vehicles.
- GM's current BEV3 architecture underpins the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac Vistiq, and Cadillac Optiq, plus the Honda Prologue, Acura ZDX, and Buick Electra E5/E4 in China, with the 2023 Lyriq as its first application.
- The current Chevy Equinox EV offers up to 319 miles of EPA-estimated range (FWD) or 307 miles (AWD), with the BEV-N platform expected to improve efficiency and charging speeds.
- Cadillac Escalade IQ will be GM's first vehicle to offer eyes-off self-driving on highways starting in 2028, as the company expands a fleet of over 200 self-driving and supervised test vehicles.
Why it matters: The Equinox EV is GM's top-selling electric vehicle in the US, but a BEV-N-equipped successor won't arrive until late 2028 — meaning the current model will go head-to-head with the 2026 Toyota bZ and Hyundai IONIQ 5 refreshes in the interim.
