- Lectron launched the NEXUS, its second-gen Level 2 home EV charger, available now in a non-wifi version with a connected model expected in the coming months; buyers can choose a NEMA 14-50 plug or hardwired installation.
- The NEXUS carries an IP66 weather-resistance rating and UL 2231, UL 2251, UL 2594, and UL 817 certifications, with temperature sensors on each hot pin on the NEMA 14-50 model; the NEMA 14-50 delivers 40 to 48 amps.
- Lectron has scaled from a direct-to-consumer retailer selling through Home Depot and Amazon into a supplier to 15+ global OEMs including Ford, GM, and Mercedes-Benz, with each charging adapter containing roughly 60 components vetted by automaker engineers.
- CEO Chris Maiwald outlined a three-stage quality process: design-phase failure analysis, production-line process failure mode safeguards, and end-of-line testing covering electrical performance, IP rating verification, and aging chamber durability tests.
- Lectron's China factory runs in-house PCBA and digitally logs every assembly step per-unit via unique serial numbers and internal cameras, including the quarter-turn of a screwdriver, allowing technicians to trace any defect back to how that unit was built.
- Completed NEXUS units are blasted with high-pressure water, exposed to extreme heat, dropped, and driven over, addressing consumer concerns that outdoor-mounted home chargers must survive years of rain, snow, heat, and dust.
- The New York Times' Wirecutter named Lectron's portable Level 1 & 2 EV charger "the best J1772 charger to carry with you" in April.
Why it matters: Lectron's evolution from a Home Depot/Amazon adapter brand into an OEM supplier to Ford, GM, and Mercedes-Benz means the same quality bar automotive engineers apply to factory-installed components now applies to its consumer NEXUS home charger. With 40 to 48 amps flowing through a compact unit for hours at a time, the company's in-house PCBA, unit-level digital traceability, IP66 weatherproofing, and UL certifications directly determine whether the box on a homeowner's wall is a daily convenience or a safety hazard.
