Jeep scraps two EVs in Europe, but three new SUVs are on the way

- Jeep cancelled plans to launch the Recon EV and Wagoneer S in Europe and the UK, telling AutoExpress that tough market conditions and right-hand-drive development costs would have made both models "untenable" given small sales projections.
- Jeep confirmed three new SUVs for Europe, including a flagship D-segment model that will be built in China via a joint venture with Dongfeng using the Chinese automaker's platform and technology, though "fully designed by Jeep" per European boss Fabio Catone.
- The flagship SUV will offer hybrid, pure electric, and potentially range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) powertrains, and will be exported from China to overseas markets including Europe.
- The two smaller new SUVs — one compact B-segment and one closer to C-segment, to sit below the Compass — will be underpinned by Stellantis' new STLA One modular platform supporting electric, hybrid, and PHEV variants.
- The STLA One platform is Stellantis' first to integrate STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit, and steer-by-wire technology, enabling faster rollout of personalized features.
Why it matters: Jeep is conceding that its American-designed EVs cannot clear Europe's right-hand-drive economics and is outsourcing its European flagship to a Chinese partner — handing Dongfeng the technology layer while Jeep retains only design and branding, a notable strategic reversal for Stellantis.
