Young Vic's 2026/7 Season Opens with 'Thelma & Louise' Musical

- Young Vic unveiled its 2026/7 season running September through July across its Main House and Maria Studio, announced Thursday by artistic director and CEO Nadia Fall.
- "Thelma & Louise" opens the season as a world-premiere musical (Sept 3–Oct 24) with Rachel Tucker as Louise and Amy Lennox as Thelma, an original score by Grammy-nominated Neko Case, a book by Callie Khouri — who wrote the Oscar-winning original screenplay — and direction by Trip Cullman.
- "Eurotrash" receives its English-language premiere (Nov 13–Jan 9, 2027), adapted by Colin Teevan from Christian Kracht's novel and directed by Walter Meierjohann, with Ben Whishaw and Kathryn Hunter — who shared the screen in Netflix's "Black Doves" — playing a son and his aging mother on a chaotic Alpine road trip.
- "La Distance," written and directed by Tiago Rodrigues, the current head of Festival d'Avignon, gets its UK premiere Jan 22–Feb 13, 2027, performed in French with English surtitles, with original Avignon cast members Adama Diop and Alison Dechamps reprising their roles.
- debbie tucker green returns to the Young Vic for the world premiere of "dissent" (Mar 5–Apr 24, 2027), a play that, per the announcement, interrogates the conditions under which ordinary people become complicit in atrocity.
- The season closes with the first UK staging in 20 years of August Wilson's "Gem of the Ocean," directed by Fall herself, running May 14–July 10, 2027.
- The Maria Studio hosts Shedinburgh's London debut (Sept 19–Oct 10) with more than 40 shows from artists including Inua Ellams and Sara Pascoe, an Oct 14 R.A.P. Party honoring the late D'Angelo, and Ewa Dina — 2026 JMK Award recipient — making her Young Vic directing debut with a revival of Theresa Ikoko's "Girls" (Oct 22–Nov 21).
Why it matters: The Young Vic is anchoring its 2026/7 season with major name draws — Whishaw, Hunter, Tucker, Lennox — and a Broadway-scale musical adaptation built on Khouri's own Oscar-winning screenplay, while also giving debbie tucker green a world premiere and staging August Wilson in the UK for the first time in two decades, with artistic director Nadia Fall directing the revival herself.
