- Priority Bicycles launched the E-Sauce, an electric version of its chunky-tired Sauce model, priced at $2,199 and sold direct-to-consumer.
- The E-Sauce pairs a 750W rear hub motor with a single-speed Gates carbon belt drive — no chain or derailleur — and uses both torque and cadence sensing, giving natural-feeling pedal assist up to 20 mph and cadence-based assist above that.
- It ships configured as a Class 2 e-bike with a 20 mph limit and a throttle, though pedal assist can be unlocked to reach the 28 mph Class 3 ceiling.
- The bike rolls on 27.5 x 2.4-inch WTB Intersector tires with 100mm of front suspension travel, and adds utility-focused touches including MIK-compatible rear rack mounts, Priority's new Headway front-mount system, hydraulic disc brakes, and built-in LED lighting with a seat-tube-integrated tail light.
- Priority is a Manhattan-based company founded by career cyclists that built its reputation on Gates belt drives and bike-shop-grade construction across its entire lineup, from kids' bikes to this new electric model.
- The original Sauce was originally expected to appeal to a narrow audience but found a much wider one thanks to its relaxed geometry, distinctive looks, and ability to handle city streets and light trails — the audience Priority is now trying to reach again with electric assist.
Why it matters: Priority is entering the e-bike market at $2,199 — roughly double the typical $1,000-ish 750W competitor — betting that riders will choose low-maintenance Gates belt drives, dealer-grade build quality, and direct-to-consumer convenience over raw watt-per-dollar value. For shoppers burned by cheap imported e-bikes, the E-Sauce offers one frame that can serve as commuter, light cargo hauler, or weekend trail toy without a chain to service.
