BYD cuts Denza Z9 GT EV prices with the new e3 Premium trim, starting at about $50,000 — SkimNews

- BYD launched the new Denza Z9 GT e3 Premium on September 9 at 329,800 yuan (~$49,000), about 40,000 yuan ($6,000) cheaper than the Performance trim that starts at 369,800 yuan ($55,000).
- The Premium trim uses BYD's e3 platform with three electric motors (one 230 kW front, two 310 kW rear) producing 770 kW (1,032 hp) and 1,210 Nm of torque, hitting 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds versus the Performance version's 2.7 seconds.
- Powered by a 122.5 kWh BYD Blade Battery 2.0, the new Premium offers up to 860 km (534 miles) of CLTC range — 40 km more than the Performance version's 820 km (509 miles).
- The Premium supports BYD's Flash Charging technology, recharging from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, with a full 10%–97% charge in 9 minutes.
- To cut costs, Denza swapped the carbon-ceramic brake discs for cast-iron and changed the wheels, but retained God's Eye 5.0 driver assistance and DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension as standard.
- The Denza Z9 GT has been China's top-selling luxury GT for several consecutive months; it also sells in Germany from €115,000 and in the UK from £95,000 (PHEV) and £105,000 (EV), with overseas availability of the new Premium trim not yet confirmed.
Why it matters: Denza cut roughly $6,000 off a luxury tri-motor EV by downgrading brakes and wheels rather than trimming power, battery, or range — the Premium actually beats the Performance on CLTC range (860 km vs 820 km). For Chinese buyers, that puts a 1,032 hp luxury GT under the $50,000 mark, sharpening BYD's price edge against European luxury EVs that start north of €115,000 in Germany.
