- Kia opened pre-orders for the Syros EV in India on Wednesday ahead of a late-month launch, with an expected starting price of approximately 1,849,000 INR (~$19,200) making it the brand's cheapest electric offering in that market.
- The Syros EV delivers a "best-in-class" range of up to 326 miles (526 km) with the larger 51.4 kWh battery per ARAI MIDC ratings, while the smaller 42 kWh pack offers 275 miles (443 km).
- The 51.4 kWh variant recharges from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes—also rated best in segment—and pairs with a single 168 hp (126 kW) motor, while the 42 kWh version runs a 132 hp (99 kW) motor.
- Built on Kia's K1 platform shared with the ICE Syros, the electric version uses the same 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs found in the Hyundai Creta Electric.
- The Syros EV's cabin features a 30" panoramic display panel with dual 12.3" screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Harman Kardon sound system, wireless charging, and more than 95 connected-car functions via Kia Connect.
- Reservations require a 25,000 INR (~$260) deposit, but the Syros EV is built locally for India and will not be sold in the US or European markets, which instead get the related EV2.
Why it matters: At roughly $19,200 with a 326-mile range and class-leading charging speed, the Syros EV sets a new low-price floor for electric SUVs in India—but because Kia manufactures it locally for domestic sales, US and European buyers are excluded from what would be one of the cheapest EVs on sale anywhere.
