Volkswagen Group Hits 4 Million Cumulative EV Deliveries

- Volkswagen Group has reached 4 million cumulative all-electric vehicle deliveries, a milestone achieved by few automakers but well short of the Group's earlier ambitions for the segment.
- Volkswagen Group ranked 4th globally in plugin vehicle sales last year with 7% market share and 5th in BEVs at 7.2%, trailing BYD Group (16.6% BEV share), Tesla (12%), Geely (10.4%), and SAIC (7.9%) — making it the top-selling European EV maker.
- MEB-based models account for roughly 3 million of the 4 million cumulative BEV deliveries, underscoring the platform's central role since VW launched its first production EV, the e-Up!, in 2013.
- Volkswagen Group launched around 60 new models over the past two years — about one-third all-electric — and now offers more than 30 all-electric passenger models from compacts to luxury SUVs, plus electric trucks and buses from TRATON brands Scania, MAN, and International.
- Europe accounts for 68% of VW Group's cumulative EV sales, with China at 20% and the US at about 8%, making the Group's EV trajectory heavily dependent on European demand.
- Brand Group Core (the volume segment) contributed roughly 72% of BEV deliveries — about 2 million from Volkswagen Passenger Cars, 480,000 from Škoda, 230,000 from SEAT/CUPRA, and 140,000 from VW Commercial Vehicles — while Audi added 870,000 and Porsche 250,000.
- Volkswagen Group's earlier target of selling 3 million EVs per year by 2025 was clearly missed; cumulative deliveries total 4 million over more than a decade, roughly one-eighth of what the company once projected on an annualized basis.
Why it matters: The 4-million cumulative number is real progress, but VW Group once targeted 3 million EVs sold in a single year by 2025 — a benchmark it missed by an order of magnitude, reinforcing that the company is scaling far slower than planned. With Europe supplying 68% of its EV volume and BYD, Tesla, and Geely all ahead in global BEV share, VW's EV business is heavily European-dependent and structurally behind the market leaders.
