BYD opens Denza Z9S pre-orders, claiming the ‘world’s longest’ EV range at 1,100 km

- BYD opened pre-orders for the Denza Z9S in China on Monday, claiming the "world's longest pure electric range" of 1,100 km (683 mi) on the top variant.
- The Denza Z9S comes in three variants with CLTC ranges of 780 km, 920 km, and 1,100 km, priced from 319,800 yuan ($47,300) to 389,900 yuan ($57,700).
- All variants share the 102.3 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 with BYD's Flash Charging technology, recharging from 10% to 70% in as little as 5 minutes and to 97% in 9 minutes.
- The tri-motor Performance variant delivers a combined 890 kW (1,200 hp), while the single-motor rear-drive version produces 370 kW (496 hp).
- The Z9S is a fastback sedan follow-up to the Denza Z9 GT (launched earlier this year with a 1,036 km CLTC range) and comes equipped with DiSus-A Intelligent Body Control System and God's Eye 5.0 ADAS.
- Denza, BYD's luxury brand, also launched the Denza Z electric hypercar at last month's Goodwood Festival of Speed, with UK pre-orders opening at £142,900 ($192,000).
Why it matters: BYD's claimed 1,100 km range on a mass-produced sedan — if validated by real-world testing — would meaningfully outpace current premium EV rivals, while the sub-$48K starting price undercuts luxury long-range competitors by tens of thousands of dollars. The 5-minute flash-charge to 70% directly targets the core range-anxiety barrier, and Denza's fast lineup expansion (Z9 GT, Z9S, Z hypercar in months) shows BYD scaling its luxury push against Tesla's aging Model S.
