BYD Yuan Plus Gets 30,000 Orders in First Week

- BYD launched the third-generation Yuan Plus on March 21 starting at 119,900 yuan ($17,600), and general manager Lu Tian said it received over 30,000 orders in its first week on the market.
- Yuan Plus is among the first mass-market EVs with BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging, which the company says recharges the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, even at -30°C.
- The new model offers two battery sizes (57.5 kWh and 68.5 kWh) with CLTC ranges of 540 km and 630 km, and rear-mounted electric motors producing 268 hp or 321 hp.
- Buyers can add BYD's God's Eye B (DiPilot 300) ADAS with roof-mounted LiDAR, 30 cameras and sensors for 12,000 yuan ($1,800), plus premium features like a 15.6" floating infotainment screen, built-in refrigerator, HUD, and reclining seats.
- The Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) was the world's 13th-best-selling EV last year with nearly 224,000 deliveries, and now faces new competition in China's compact SUV segment from the Geely Galaxy E5.
- BYD's updated vehicles with the new battery and charging tech have collectively received over 100,000 orders, and the tech is rolling out overseas starting with the Denza Z9 GT in Europe and the UK.
Why it matters: BYD is pairing sub-$20K pricing with 5-minute Flash Charging to defend China's mass-market EV crown against rising rivals like Geely's Galaxy E5. The Yuan Plus was already the world's 13th-best-selling EV with 224,000 deliveries last year, and the tech-driven refresh — which has pulled 100,000+ orders across multiple updated models — shows the strategy is working at scale.
