- BYD launched the Great Han ("Da Han") luxury electric sedan in China on Tuesday with three variants priced from 235,900 yuan (~$35,000), its first fully electric D-segment flagship under the Dynasty series
- Great Han EV offers up to 1,008 km (626 miles) CLTC range on the base RWD Premium, while the top AWD Flagship variant delivers 880 km (546 miles), all using a 102.326 kWh Blade 2.0 battery pack
- AWD Flagship powertrain combines a 370 kW (496 hp) rear motor with a 200 kW front motor for 570 kW (764 hp) total output, making it BYD's most powerful sedan to date
- Flash Charging technology charges the Great Han from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes, enabled by BYD's second-gen Blade Batteries
- Standard driver-assist package includes a roof-mounted LiDAR and BYD's God's Eye B system, with Navigate on Autopilot for highways and cities plus remote autonomous parking
- Great Han dimensions measure 5,256 mm long with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, making it slightly larger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air and comparable to the long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class
- Premium extras include DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and zero-gravity front seats; the sedan joins the Great Tang SUV in the Dynasty lineup, which averaged over 10,000 monthly units in its first three months
Why it matters: At ~$35,000, the Great Han undercuts the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air on price while matching or exceeding them in size, and its 1,008 km range and 5-minute charging claim outpaces nearly every Western premium EV on the market. The Great Tang's 10,000+ monthly sales in its first three months sets the bar the new sedan must clear to prove BYD's luxury push can scale.
