BYD undercuts Defender with its first 7-seat SUV in the UK

- BYD opened UK orders for the Ti 7, its first seven-seat SUV designed for European and UK markets, starting at £47,995 ($65,000) on the road — nearly £24,000 below the Defender 110 PHEV's £71,840 starting price
- The Ti 7 debuts BYD's DM-p (Dual Mode performance) powertrain in the UK, combining three electric motors with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine for a combined 402 hp (408 PS)
- The plug-in hybrid SUV accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds while its 35.6 kWh Blade Battery delivers up to 74 miles of WLTP pure-electric range (102 miles in city driving)
- Only the flagship Excellence AWD trim is available in the UK, with customer deliveries not expected until January 2027
- Standard equipment includes a built-in refrigerator and drinks warmer between the front seats, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch driver display, an 18-speaker sound system, and acoustic glass for the windscreen and front windows
- Pre-orders require a £500 deposit, which BYD said it will match, with full details to be revealed soon
Why it matters: The Ti 7 undercuts the Defender 110 PHEV by roughly £24,000 while delivering more than double its electric range (74 vs. 31.1 miles WLTP), giving Land Rover its first volume-priced seven-seat plug-in rival in the UK — though BYD buyers won't take delivery until January 2027, giving the Defender time to respond.
