- Hyundai is preparing the IONIQ 7 to slot between the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9, positioned as a family hauler with two- and three-row seating options and single- and dual-motor powertrains
- The IONIQ 7 is expected to be slightly larger than the IONIQ 5 (183.3" long, 74.4" wide, 63" tall, 118.1" wheelbase) but with a more traditional boxy SUV profile rather than the IONIQ 5's hatchback-like shape
- The IONIQ 7 is expected to deliver a WLTP range of at least 400 miles and use an 800V architecture for fast charging, mirroring the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9
- Hyundai is also developing the IONIQ 4, a B-segment SUV twinned with the Kia EV3, expected to start around £25,000 ($33,000) in the UK and slot between the IONIQ 3 and IONIQ 5
- US buyers will likely miss the IONIQ 4 given Kia just launched the EV3 stateside, but there's hope Hyundai will bring the IONIQ 7 to America, where it would likely price at $40,000–$45,000 above the $35,250 IONIQ 5
- Both the IONIQ 4 and IONIQ 7 are expected to launch within the next 12 to 18 months, according to Auto Express, and likely carry Hyundai's new Pleos Connect infotainment system
Why it matters: Hyundai is filling the size and price gaps in its IONIQ EV lineup with two SUVs targeting distinct buyers — a larger family hauler (IONIQ 7) and a smaller entry SUV (IONIQ 4) — putting pressure on competitors like Tesla and Kia by offering more choice within a 12–18 month window. The IONIQ 7's expected 400-mile WLTP range and 800V fast-charging architecture position it as a direct challenger in the three-row electric SUV segment currently dominated by the Kia EV9.
