- BYD confirmed the Shark PHEV pickup will go on sale in China by the end of 2026, following the May 2026 launch of the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 and Bao 8 with the company's new Flash Charging system.
- A prototype spotted testing in China with minimal camouflage showed the domestic version will carry Fang Cheng Bao branding and be distributed through that sub-brand's existing sales network rather than under the BYD badge.
- The Shark measures 5,457 mm long, 1,971 mm wide, and 1,925 mm tall with a 3,260 mm wheelbase — roughly the same footprint as a Toyota Hilux or Ford Ranger.
- Powered by BYD's DMO Super Hybrid system, the pickup pairs a 1.5T four-cylinder engine with dual electric motors delivering 228 hp at the front and 201 hp at the rear for a combined 429 hp (320 kW), backed by a 29.58 kWh battery yielding about 62 miles (100 km) of NEDC pure-electric range.
- The Shark is already on sale in Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Peru, with European and UK launches forthcoming — making China the notable holdout among major markets.
- China-market prices are expected to start in the 200,000–300,000 yuan range ($29,500–$44,000), with a launch targeted for late Q3 or early Q4 2026.
Why it matters: BYD is targeting a 200,000–300,000 yuan ($29,500–$44,000) launch price for the Shark's China debut by late 2026, bringing a proven five-market product home through its Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand to compete directly with Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger-sized pickups. The PHEV's 100 km of electric range gives Chinese buyers a plug-in option in a pickup segment historically dominated by diesel.
