Ford’s EV pickup is almost here, promising much more than an affordable price tag

- Ford unveiled the Fathom midsize EV pickup at a starting price of $28,350, with production set for Q1 2027 at the Louisville Assembly Plant as part of a $5 billion investment creating 4,000 jobs across that plant and BlueOval Battery Park Michigan.
- The UEV Production System breaks the vehicle into three sections — front clip, rear clip, and battery deck — using large aluminum unicastings that reduce body parts from 146 on the current Maverick to just 2 for the Fathom, enabling 40% faster assembly.
- Ford Chief Manufacturing Officer Bryce Currie said the new process cuts reaching over the fender by 84% and shortens the wiring harness by more than 4,000 feet (22 pounds lighter) compared to Ford's first-gen electric SUV.
- Louisville Assembly Plant will have the highest level of final-assembly automation of any Ford plant worldwide, including a first-of-its-kind software flash station with 5G connectivity that lets operators diagnose and update vehicles as they move down the line.
- The Fathom promises more interior passenger space than a Toyota RAV4, and comes standard with bidirectional V2L charging, a large high-resolution touchscreen, a digital key, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- The Fathom will be the first vehicle to integrate Apple Maps directly into its built-in navigation, including turn-by-turn directions and EV-specific routing.
