BYD Song Ultra EV Completes 2,700-Mile China Trip

- BYD's Song Ultra EV completed the 4,395-km (2,730-mile) Lianyungang-Khorgos Expressway — China's largest — between May 16 and May 20, arriving in Kaifeng, Henan, the first pure EV to finish the full route, per Dynasty series GM Lu Tian.
- The Song Ultra EV launched March 26 starting at 151,900 yuan ($22,000), undercutting the expected 220,000 yuan ($31,900) price, and accumulated 61,240 orders in its first month on sale, including 37,216 by April 2.
- BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging system let the Song Ultra EV go from 10% to 70% charge in 5 minutes, reach 97% in 9 minutes, and hit the same window in 12 minutes at -30°C, with two pack options (68.4 kWh / 82.7 kWh) delivering 375- to 441-mile CLTC range.
- BYD had deployed 5,979 Flash Charging stations across 312 Chinese cities as of May 15 and plans to begin rolling out the new chargers in Europe and other overseas markets later this year.
- The Song Ultra EV competes in China's midsize electric SUV segment against the XPeng G6, Leapmotor C11, Deepal S7, and Tesla Model Y, with top trims offering LiDAR-based "God's Eye B" ADAS supporting Level 3 highway and city driving.
Why it matters: A $22,000 EV with 5-minute charging just proved it can cross China's longest expressway end-to-end — a direct shot at Tesla Model Y and other midsize electric SUVs in the world's largest EV market. The 61,240 first-month orders and 5,979-station charging buildout show BYD pairing aggressive pricing with the infrastructure to back it up, while the planned European rollout extends that pressure overseas.
