Hyundai Unveils Neira 7-Seat Electric Minivan

- Hyundai unveiled the Neira Concept, a seven-seat electric minivan, at GIIAS 2026 (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) on Thursday, debuting alongside the IONIQ 3 and several other Hyundai vehicles.
- Hyundai said the Neira will be produced locally in Indonesia at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, starting by the end of 2026.
- The Neira Concept is nearly identical to the Kia Carens Clavis EV (launched in India last year), featuring dual 12.3″ instrument and infotainment screens plus a separate climate control panel, with only subtle differences in front/rear design, headlights, and alloy wheels.
- Hyundai's electric minivan is expected to offer two battery options — 42 kWh (up to 251 mi MIDC range) and 51.4 kWh (up to 304 mi MIDC range) — both capable of 10–80% recharge in about 39 minutes on a 100 kW DC fast charger.
- The Neira is unlikely to reach the US because Trump administration import tariffs would make it too costly to export, though Hyundai already sells the all-electric seven-seat IONIQ 9 in the US (built at its Metaplant in Georgia).
Why it matters: Hyundai is positioning Indonesia as a manufacturing base for affordable family EVs — a market the Kia Carens Clavis EV already serves in India — but American buyers are cut out: Trump-era tariffs block a seven-seat electric minivan that would undercut the US-built IONIQ 9. The near-identical Neira/Carens design also signals deeper platform-sharing efficiency across Hyundai Motor Group for emerging markets.
