Hyundai unveils Neira 7-seat electric minivan concept

- Hyundai debuted the Neira Concept, a seven-seat electric people mover, at GIIAS 2026 on Thursday alongside the IONIQ 3 and several other vehicles
- The Neira is nearly identical to the Kia Carens Clavis EV launched in India last year, sharing dual 12.3-inch instrument cluster and infotainment screens plus an additional climate control panel, with Hyundai differentiating only the front and rear ends, headlights, and alloy wheels
- Production is slated for Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia by the end of 2026, with Hyundai saying the MPV is "designed to address the space and practicality needs of Indonesian families without sacrificing sustainability"
- Battery options are expected to mirror the Carens Clavis EV: a 42 kWh pack (up to 251 mi/404 km range) and a 51.4 kWh pack (up to 304 mi/490 km), both recharging from 10% to 80% in about 39 minutes on a 100 kW DC fast charger
- Trump Administration import tariffs would make exporting the Indonesia-built MPV too costly, making US availability unlikely even though Hyundai could ship it to markets like India
- US buyers wanting a Hyundai seven-seat EV already have the all-electric IONIQ 9, built domestically at Hyundai's Metaplant in Georgia
Why it matters: Hyundai's choice to build the Neira in Indonesia localizes it for Southeast Asian buyers and structurally blocks US import via Trump-era tariffs. American consumers wanting a Hyundai three-row EV remain limited to the Georgia-built IONIQ 9.
